Alpinia Galanga (Greater Galanga) – Alpinia Galanga (Greater Galanga)

Alpinia Galanga is a large herbaceous plant of the Ginger family which can grow up to 3 meters in height. It is best grown in full sun or part shade but does best with at least 4 hours morning sun per day. As for other gingers it requires a well-drained organically rich substrate with peat moss and mulch to emulate its natural habitat. It is frost sensitive and may become dormant in winter in temperate regions, but the rhizomes will re-shoot in late spring. It is often best to dig them up and let them dry before replanting as rot may occur in a wet winter.
