Cordyline Negra – Cordyline Fruticosa Negra

A broad leaf Cordyline with emergent green foliage which turn blackish purple as the leaves age. Use a stand-alone planting or group planting in the tropical garden. It does best in bright indirect light protected from full afternoon sun. A rich well-drained planting medium is recommended with mulch and peat moss. A sheltered location is important as it is frost sensitive to leaf burn. Growth rate is average so an annual application of a slow-release fertilizer is recommended. Remove the dead leaves and if the plant becomes leggy the stem may be cut in the warmer months to encourage branching. Use a potato peeler on the stem of the top section and replant to propagate a new Negra.
