Hawaiian Fan Palm – Pritchardia Hillebrandii
The Hawaiian Fan Palm or Loulu Palm is native to Hawaii. It is an excellent palm for the tropical landscape or Bali Garden. It can spread wide when young but provides a nice umbrella canopy as it attains some height. It is generally cold tolerant, but frosts should be avoided. They have broad round leaves that are deeply pleated. In natural habitat the Loulu palm can be found in valleys or on high rocky hillsides. Its soil requirements aren’t critical so long as there is good drainage. Fertilize and mulch well in mid-spring to assist new frond growth.
