Mediterranian Fan Palm – Chamaerops Humilis
The Mediterranean Fan Palm is the only palm native to southern Europe. It is very slow growing and compact in size producing multiple stems. It has fan-shaped leaves and rarely grows more than 2 – 3 meters. It is a very hardy palm, cold tolerant and drought resistant. It is ideal in temperate to cool climates but the growth rate is slow. The fan leaves are blue green in colour making in interesting contrast in tropical greenery. Mature specimens are expensive but make an excellent feature plant. They do best in full sun rather than shade and are not fussy about soil types as long as there is good drainage.
