Red Neck Palm – Dypsis Leptocheilos

Red Neck Palm (Dypsis Leptocheilos)

A native of Madagascar, the Red Neck Palm is an excellent addition to the tropical landscape. It has a red velvety crown shaft and is a hardy specimen for our subtropical region. As the trunk develops green-grey rings form adding to the visual appeal of the tree. As for most palms a deep, freely draining soil is recommended. Young plants require some protection from the sun to avoid leaf burn but older specimens tolerate full sun. They are generally cold hardy but frost sensitive.
