Rhapis Palm Japanese Variegated – Rhapis Excelsa

The fingers of the Variegated Rhapis have stripes of cream yellow and white. Like the standard Rhapis, it has a clustering growth with no thorns and is child friendly. It is a slow growing palm and requires a shaded location It also makes an excellent indoor palm. It is cold tolerant, and dislikes overly wet conditions so good drainage is essential when planted outdoors in the tropical landscape as an understorey. The Variegated Rhapis has been bred in Japan whereas the standard green Rhapis originates from Taiwan and China. They should be planted in a rich organic mix with a covering of mulch. The soil should be moist but also well drained. A much-prized plant in Asia.
