Ruby Ginger – Curcuma Rubescens

Bright red stems are a feature of Ruby Ginger that complement the use of natural colour in the tropical landscape. They prefer a partly shaded position and may grow to 2 meters. Flowers, white to pink in colour, form at the base of the plant for a stunning show. Ruby ginger becomes dormant in winter but re-emerges in spring. A rich well drained soil with mulch applied will enhance growth. Water only when the plant develops leaves – otherwise leave dry in the winter months. Flowering usually occurs from December to May.
