Australian Fan Palm – Licuala Ramsyii

A native of northern Queensland, particularly in the rainforests where, in natural habitat, the circular segmented leaves can grow up to 2 meters in diameter. Despite its native tropical location, the Australian Fan Palm can grow in sheltered locations both in sub-tropical and even warm temperate areas. Frost free is essential and to maintain a similar understory shaded habitat, it will survive in coastal tropical gardens in NSW. Plant is a dep well drained soil with synergistic plantings and a shaded canopy. Apply a thick carpet of mulch and lightly spray the leaves on hot summer days. Emulate a rainforest situation and protect from strong drying winds. It can be container grown on patios in the right situation.
