Bismarck Palm – Bismarckia Noblis
The Bismarck Palm is a native of Madagascar and makes an incredible feature palm in large backyards. They are slow growing when young but can attain a height of 10 meters with a spread of 9 meters with maturity. The blue-grey fan leaves may grow to 2.5 meters in diameter. There is a green leafed variety but this is far less common and seems not to withstand cold temperatures as well as the blue frond variety. They are very adaptable from the tropics to even survive in areas with light frosts. The Bismarck palm tolerates many different soil types and grows best in full sun.
