Cardboard Cycad (Zamia Furfuracea)
The Cardboard Cycad is native to Mexico. It is a hardy species that has best leaf colour in part shade but also adapts to full sun. It prefers well drained soils and is drought and salt tolerant. The seeds of the cardboard cycad are poisonous to pets and humans if ingested – its easy to cut off seed cones of mature plants as they develop. The leaves are not as spikey as many cycads and have a rounded appearance.
