Clumping Fishtail Palm – Caryota Mitis

Clumping Fishtail Palm – Caryota Mitis

Native to South-east Asia the clumping Fishtail Palm has unique leaflets shaped like a fish tail. Its appearance is best when grown in partial shade or indirect sunlight with well drained soil and a high level of mulch applied. They tolerate cold but should be protected from frost. They sucker from the base, forming a clump, and require a large area for growth as they become mature.  The seeds of a mature plant may be irritant – so best to cut off any developing seed pods.
