Heliconia Hot Rio Night

Heliconia Hot Rio Night will grow to 3 to 4 meters and produces a stunning red flower bract which may grow to 1 meter long. A tropical or sub-tropical plant that will grow well in temperate locations provided a sheltered sunny spot is chosen. It is a clumping plant requiring moist well drained soil with plenty of mulch. Flowers occur in summer and early autumn in the mature plant. A location with morning sun is ideal avoiding the hot midday sun and a sheltered location to minimise leaf wind damage. It likes constantly moist soil in the summer months but not so often if you are growing indoors. Apply organic fertilizer when new growth emerges in spring.
