Shampoo Ginger Variegated – Zingiber Zerumbet
The Shampoo Ginger is native to India. As with most gingers it prefers a nutrient rich freely draining soil and does best in partial shade. Six hours of sunlight daily will encourage flowering. It can be grown indoors but ideally outdoors to enhance the tropical garden. Grows to 1.8 meters, spacing 60cm apart for group planting. It produces bright red flowers 10cm tall from spring to late summer which have a ginger scent. Constantly moist soil is important during the growing season, otherwise let dry out during dormancy.
